| Dean's Welcome |
|
Dear Law Students,
Welcome to the UCC Law Faculty! We welcome you to our diverse ![]() community, of which our proud partnership with the UCC Law Society is a very significant part. We all learn about Law in different ways, at different levels, for different purposes, and starting from very different places, geographically and intellectually. We are all bound together by a shared commitment to justice, and to giving a voice to those who have none. We are ultimately a community of lawyers who must find strength within and from each other, to communicate with each other, and to utilise the privilege of a society dedicated to law students, in order to forge acquaintances that will stand you in good stead in the years ahead. As the society grows more complex, it is all the more important that the institutions within it work. I am acutely conscious of how much Law has grown in the University context. That growth does not endanger our sense of identity and collegiate if we also strengthen what holds us together. The Law Society is your Society. It has a proud history. You are now its present and future. Use it well to become involved on behalf of, and with your colleagues. I am delighted to act as Honorary President of the Law Society, as it forms a vital part of the Faculty. As Dean I look forward to working with you in the years ahead. I hope to continue the tradition of listening to you, the students, and will strive to respond to your ideas and needs. I look forward to meeting you all throughout the year. Enjoy this wonderful and privileged time in your lives. Professor Steve Hedley Dean of Faculty of Law and Head of Department of Law |
