Where would a college society be without a social department? Extinct! Many people regard law students as being pretentious, boring and studious individuals….these people clearly haven’t attended any of our social events! Such events have known to involve dancing on (and falling off) tables, extreme moshing and the occasional bit of nudity! Therefore, I think it’s fair to say we have the social scene covered from every angle. At the beginning of every college year, we organise the spectacular “Feel a Fresher”, (known as the “First Year Mystery Tour” to first years). This basically involves you hopping on a bus, being transported to some pub in the back-of-beyonds, having a few social drinks, scoring with one of your classmates and thus spending the next 2 years avoiding them! Believe me, it’s a fantastic night out and one of the best laughs you will have all year. The next big social event we have planned is the Law Dinner which takes place in early November. This is the first real formal event of the year and is a great excuse to throw on the suit or dress and experience a debs-like atmosphere all over again. The week before the Christmas break we also host the rather ‘famous’ Law Mistletoe Party. This event has been a huge success over the last few years and in order to get everyone into the Christmas spirit there will be mince pies, mulled wine, prizes and plenty of Mariah Carey and Wham! Last, but certainly not least, we host the legendary “Law Ball”, which is regarded as the classiest ball in college. The Law Ball, which takes place in February, is an event where no one can be overdressed or over fake-tanned! It is an occasion to chatter with drunken lecturers, take advantage of your drunken classmates and take compromising pictures of your drunken friends! It is without doubt that the Law Ball is one of the best events on campus. With all these events in mind, along with numerous class parties, the Law GAA Tournament, the Law Cup and also some ‘special’ class outings, we hope that this year will be truly unforgettable!
This year's Social Secretary is Ms. Tara Copplestone.
