Nominations Open for Co-option
Written by John Sugrue

Nominations for Co-opted Positions on the Executive Committee of the 81st Session are now open. They will close two weeks from now on Sunday 6th June 2010 at 1pm. We will not accept nominations after that time.

What is this all about? The Executive in any given session may select a person or a number of people to sit on the committee with them and perform a set role. The Executive is given this power under Article 27 of the current Law Society Constitution. Positions which we may seek to fill this year include:

Webmaster - for ucclawsociety.com
Archives/Alumni Officer - to investigate and record the Society's history/develop an alumni network
Advocacy Development Officer - to develop increased involvement in Moot Court/Debating

Ex-Officio - This position is open to former committee members only. So if you have previous committee experience and you will be around next year, please let us know. You may submit interest for the role of Ex-Officio as part of an application for other positions, or indeed, by itself.

We will accept nominations for any of these roles, or any combination of them. We are also open to the proposal of new positions. Also, if you are interested in more than one area, feel free to apply for more than one position.

If you are interested and feel that you have something to offer the Law Society then email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the position(s) your interested in. We'd also appreciate a very brief outline of what you have to offer the role. All members (this includes all students of the Faculty of Law) may apply and those who are not yet certain if they will be in UCC next year, e.g. those waiting on masters applications, may still apply.

We will contact applicants to arrange a short interview at a time that is convenient. However, although we may be holding interviews before nominations close, we will not announce any position until everyone who expresses interest gets an interview.

At the conclusion of this process, the Executive Committee may decide to co-opt all, some or none of the above positions or offer a combined position to any individual candidate.

We look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

All the best,

John

Law Society Archiving Project
Written by johnjsugrue

We are proud to announce that the new Law Society Archiving Project can now be found at www.ucclawsociety.com/archive. Here you can browse articles detailing the fascinating highs and lows the Law Society, University College Cork has experienced in it's 80 years of existence. You can even login and contribute your two cents to the collection of information that the project has brought together.

This project hopes to build on the sterling work of the History and Alumni Project established to research and publish "75 Years Of U.C.C. Law Society: You Should Have Been There" for the Society's 75th Anniversary.

Here's to 80 more,

john
